A Concert by the Veretyontse (Little Spindle) Folklore Ensemble

Veretyontse is comprised of both children and adults and is dedicated to reviving the best of the Russian traditional ritual, spiritual and musical culture. Founded in 1981, the Ensemble is well-known and loved all across Russia and in many countries of the world. The Ensemble has previously performed in Red Square in Moscow, at the Davos Forum in Switzerland, and at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

Veretyontse performances are more than concerts – they are a tale winding together various aspects of our nation’s culture: folklore, traditional ways of life, and fairy tales – full of humour and wisdom.

The recreation of an atmosphere of Russian traditional life on stage is aided by the use of traditional costumes and musical instruments collected over years of travel by the Ensemble’s members.

The concert programme will include: traditional dances, Russian songs and spiritual poetry, and a presentation on different genres of musical folklore. The audience will be invited not only to listen, but to join in with the singing, as well.
