FESTIVAL FORUM: The Tomos of Discontent: Discussion of Ukrainian Autocephaly in the Russian and Ukrainian Mass Media

Programme:

• A presentation of research by the Stol.com Centre for Analytics, listing arguments for and against autocephaly for the Ukrainian Church, as presented by the largest media organizations of Russian and Ukraine, as well as a list of those who have taken it upon themselves to be peacemakers in this conflict.
• Round table discussion of the research results, with invited guests, including priests, scholars of religious affairs, and journalists.

Questions for Discussion:

• Why did the Russian side consider Constantinople’s presentation of a Tomos granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian Church unrealistic until the last minute?
• How should we evaluate the efforts of church diplomacy in the regulation of this conflict?
• What new light has this Ukrainian conflict she on the situation in the Orthodox Churches across the world, in general?
