Is Humility Relevant? 

What sort of humility can we learn from Russian saints? Humility has always been one of the main Christian virtues, though in the modern world we often meet with a distorted understanding of humility. In order to search for authentic examples of humility we can look to our Russian saints. Participants will discuss what a humble person in the modern world might look like, and the degree to which the experience of our saints, from St. Seraphim of Sarov to the new martyrs and confessors – is relevant for us now. What can they teach us?

Programme:

• Presentation of the results of a mini-survey on the topic of how St. Seraphim of Sarov’s words, “Attain the spirit of peace” are understood (from his well-known saying, “attain the spirit of peace, and thousands around you will be saved”).
• Round table and free-form discussion.

Questions for discussion:

• How can we recognize real humility?
• Can modern man learn humility from our Russian saints?
• What fruits await the person who acquires humility?

Priests and Church historians will take part in the discussion.
