What sort of humility can we learn from Russian saints? Humility has always been one of the main Christian virtues, though in the modern world we often meet with a distorted understanding of humility. In order to search for authentic examples of humility we can look to our Russian saints. Participants will discuss what a humble person in the modern world might look like, and the degree to which the experience of our saints, from St. Seraphim of Sarov to the new martyrs and confessors – is relevant for us now. What can they teach us?
Programme:
- Presentation of the results of a mini-survey on the topic of how St. Seraphim of Sarov’s words, “Attain the spirit of peace” are understood (from his well-known saying, “attain the spirit of peace, and thousands around you will be saved”).
- Round table and free-form discussion.
Questions for discussion:
- How can we recognize real humility?
- Can modern man learn humility from our Russian saints?
- What fruits await the person who acquires humility?
Priests and Church historians will take part in the discussion.
